Cutoff Drill:

Cutoffs are a HUGE part of youth baseball. If you can execute flawless cutoffs and not allow runners to get extra bases, you can save a lot of runs and win more ballgames.

The best way to handle this drill is to split the kids up into lines of 4 or 5 or 6 - the coaches can even participate! - and make it a game.

1. One player should start with the ball at the end of the line.
2. On go, he should throw a hard throw to the glove side of the next player.
3. As the ball is coming in, the player receiving the ball should be dropping his non-gloveside foot to get his body into position to make a quick throw.
4. Upon receiving the ball, the player should quickly get rid of it, doing the same as the player before him.
5. When the ball hits the other end of the line, that player should start the process over without stopping.
6. Make sure to rotate the players at the ends of the lines and inside the lines. Even outfielders can benefit from this as it'll teach them to hit the glove side of the cutoff and how to get the ball out of their glove quickly.

* You can make it a game by having the two lines race. If there is an overthrow - they have to start at the very beginning again.
